If you want to get fitter this year then walking for fitness is a great way to start. Walking is very good for you in lots of way as you can do it just about anywhere. All you need to take with you is a good pair of walking shoes or trainers and to dress appropriately for the weather and away you go! You can walk in almost any weather and you don’t have to walk for miles, just a little each day is all it takes to get healthier.
You can walk with your friends or you can walk alone, either way you will be getting some fresh air and exercise at the same time and you can purchase pedometers that you clip on you which show you how much you have walked each day so you can keep any eye on your progress each week.
The best way to walk for fitness is that you should be a bit breathless but not out of breath and still be able to talk normally. When you get to that point then you know that you are walking at the correct pace that will burn up some calories and also increase your level of health.
There is something called a ‘walking club’ which if there is not one near you then you could start one up. It is a good excuse to get together with like minded people as you can bring the children with you as well. With walking clubs they start off at a point, say a local park and then walk through it so you can take in all the scenery. You will soon forget that you are doing it for fitness as it’s much easier when you are walking and talking with other people as it makes the time go quicker.
Around 20 – 30 minutes is a decent amount of time for walking every day, but you could start off with just 10 minutes and then gradually build up if you don’t usually do a lot of walking. You are never too young or too old to start walking for fitness and if you plan your walking right, then you will see in a few months time that you are feeling fitter and more healthier. So why not promise yourself that from tomorrow you will take up some walking for fitness and make this a start of a new and healthier you.
